Imaginando un relato que superpone la macropolítica estatal y la micropolítica de género, podríamos decir que históricamente el Estado policial ha ocupado la función patriarcal paterna, mientras que el Estado providencia ha intentado cumplir las funciones que el patriarcado había asignado a la madre. El Estado policial disciplina y castiga; el Estado providencia cuida y previene. Según esta ecuación, sería posible describir Grecia como una familia en la que el Estado policial padre es alcohólico, corrupto, abusivo y violento, y la madre ha abandonado el hogar o solo aparece para pedir dinero.

This ideological crisis, in the forms it took within the dominant class itself, could be said to be at the roots of a factor which contributed further to the political crisis: the break between the political representatives of the bourgeoisie (the parties and politicians) and its ideological representatives (the ‘watchdogs’ and ‘ideological spokesmen’).
